 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Penggemar cerita klasik dari Cina sudah barang tentu telah mengenal baik kisa perjalanan Biksu Tang dan ketiga muridnya ke daerah Barat untuk mencari kitab suci Buddha. Telah banyak kisahnya dijabarkan dalam berbagai bentuk, baik dari komik hingga film. Namun film bertajuk "A Journey to West" hasil garapan sutradara Jeffrey Lau pada tahun 2005 ini menceritakan kisah awal Biksu Tang alias Tripitaka dan ketiga muridnya sebelum mereka melakukan perjalanan legendaris itu.
Yang unik kisah film tersebut yang berjudul asli "Chin ding dai sing" (A Chinese Tall Story) ini mencampuradukkan unsur komedi, drama romantis, aksi laga, fantasi dan fiksi ilmiah. Bagaimana tidak, sang biksu ternyata dibantu oleh seorang putri dari planet lain yang rasanya tidak akan dijumpai dalam versi kebanyakan kisah tersebut. Nah, kisahnya dimulai ketika Biksu Tripitaka dan tiga muridnya mengunjungi kota Shache.
Ternyata Tripitaka (Nicholas Tse) yang masih muda akan menemui tantangan besar di sana. Ketiga murid Tripitaka (salah satu adalah Sun Wu Kong) ditangkap oleh tiga Setan Pohon, sedangkan sang biksu berhasil melarikan diri. Sayangnya ia kemudian ditangkap oleh Raja Biawak dan ditaruh dalam penjara yang dijaga oleh Meiyan (Charlene Choi) yang buruk rupa. Ternyata Meiyan jatuh cinta kepada Triptaka dan berusaha membuat sang biksu jatuh cinta kepadanya.
Di sisi lain, Tripitaka yang sedang mencari cara untuk membebaskan ketiga muridnya, berhasil mendapat bantuan dari seorang putri cantik dari planet lain, Xiaoshan (Fan Bing Bing). Tentu saja Meiyan langsung menganggap Xiaoshan adalah saingan berat dalam memperebutkan cinta Tripitaka. Lantaran merasa ditipu Meiyan, maka Tripitaka lebih memilih Xiaoshan. Tidak heran jika Meiyan sangat terluka hatinya. Namun Tripitaka tidak menghiraukannya karena lebih sibuk menyelamatkan ketiga muridnya bersama Xiaoshan dan pasukan sang Putri yang berteknologi futuristik.
Nah, apakah Biksu Tang alias Tripitaka itu akan berhasil membebaskan ketiga muridnya? Apa yang terjadi selanjutnya pada Meiyan? Saksikan kisah selengkapnya dalam Sinema Utama "A Journey West (A Chinese Tall Story)" di Indosiar. Selamat menyaksikan.(indosiar.com/Fachri)
KISAH SEBAKUL AIR (kisah benar)
Amad dan Atuk
Seorang petani tua tinggal bersama cucunya di sebuah kawasan pedalaman. Rutin sesudah subuh sebelum bertani, Si Atuk akan membaca Quran di pangkin. Amad, cucu Si Atuk sentiasa memerhatikan gelagat atuknya, dan berusaha untuk merutinkan bacaannya seperti atuk. Suatu hari Amad bertanya, “Atuk, Amad cuba untuk baca Quran setiap hari macam Atuk, tapi Amad selalu tidak faham. Bila faham sekalipun, Amad tetap akan lupa bila Amad tutup Quran. Apa ya kebaikan baca Quran, Atuk?”
Si Atuk menutup Quran dan tersenyum, faham benar dengan pertanyaan cucu tunggalnya itu. Tidak menjawab soalan Amad, sebaliknya Atuk menyuruh Amad berbuat sesuatu, “Amad ambil bakul arang di dapur. Pergi ke sungai dan bawa balik sebakul air untuk Atuk.”
Amad hanya menurut, pergi ke sungai, mengisi air ke dalam bakul, dan berjalan balik ke rumah. Sebelum sampai ke rumah, air terkeluar melalui lubang-lubang bakul yang dibuat dari rotan. Amad berpatah balik ke sungai sekali lagi. Dari jauh Si Atuk memerhatikan gelagat Amad sambil tertawa, lalu berteriak, “Amad perlu bergerak lebih laju, supaya sempat sampai di rumah!”
Kali ini Amad berlari lebih laju, tetapi hasilnya tetap sama, bakul tetap kosong sebelum sampai ke rumah. Tercungap-cungap keletihan, Amad bilang terlalu mustahil untuk membawa air menggunakan bakul, lalu Amad mencapai baldi.
“Atuk tidak mahu air dari baldi, Atuk hanya mahu air dari bakul. Amad belum berusaha dengan bersungguh, Atuk tahu.” Lalu Amad mencapai bakul tadi dan segera ke sungai, dia ingin membuktikan kepada Atuknya yang dia telah berusaha bersungguh-sungguh. Malah semakin cepat Amad berlari, semakin cepat bakul itu bocor.
“Tengok Atuk, tidak berguna bukan? Bakul ini tetap kosong,” kata Amad kepada Atuknya, menelan rasa kecewa.
Betulkah tidak berguna?
“Tidak berguna kata Amad? Cuba Amad lihat bakul itu.” Amad melihat bakul di tangannya, dan Amad baru perasan satu perkara – bakul itu tidak lagi comot dengan kesan arang dan tanah, malah jauh lebih bersih, luar dan dalam.
“Amad, itulah yang berlaku bila kita selalu membaca Quran. Kita mungkin tidak faham, atau tidak ingat apa-apa, tetapi yakinlah bila kita membacanya, kita akan berubah, luar dan dalam”. Amad tersenyum lebar, penuh bahagia, persoalannya kini terjawab.
Usaha atau Hasil?
Seringkali kita terfokus pada hasil, sehingga kita terlupa usaha itu yang lebih utama. Tanpa usaha tiada hasil. Mulai sekarang ubahlah apa yang kita lihat. Lihat dan hargailah usaha, walau hasilnya tidak seberapa. ^_^Jika kita berupaya sekuat tenaga menemukan’sesuatu, dan pada titik akhir upaya itu hasilnya masih nihil, maka sebenarnya kita telah menemukan apa yang kita cari dalam diri kita sendiri, yakni kenyataan, kenyataan yang harus dihadapi, sepahit apa pun keadaannya.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

exam tips - the curse

Which character do you like or admire the most? Give reasons for your answer with close reference to the text.

I - Identify the needs of the question – character that you like
     or admire –

M - Based on the Novel The Curse by Lee Su  Ann, the character that I
       like or admire is………………….because ….(state 2 reasons)

E - What happened that make the character likeable/admirable? When did it happen?
      Where did it happen? (give 2 evidences for each reasons)

- Justify why you say that the character is likeable/admirable? (Closure – relate it to
     our own life)

Based on the novel “The Curse” by Lee Su Ann the character that I like and admire is Azreen because of a few reasons.

The first reason is because Azreen is such a strong character that has great courage as she is open, positive and always fights for what she believes in.

Firstly, she ignores the warnings and prejudices of the Villagers by befriending the out casted Old lady. This is shown right from the time she dares to accept the challenge from her friends to approach the old lady to finally knocking on the door of the Old lady. In fact, she makes her, her precious confidante and counsellor.

Secondly, in defence of the Old lady she dares to confront Puan Normala’s mob outside Mohd Asraf’s house when Nek once again has fallen ill and died. Subsequently, she confronts a group of men led by Asraf who goes to the Old lady’s house to seek revenge after Nek dies as they believe the Old lady has poisoned Nek. Finally, when the Old lady died, trapped in the burning house, she confronts Asraf and physically attacks him as she believes Asraf is to be blamed.

Being open, positive, courageous to speak and act accordingly, and in addition always fights for what we believe in is important to us as we certainly help to make right what are wrong in the society, bring healing to wounded hearts and make the world a better place.

The second reason is because Azreen is such a good and loyal friend …………. (complete the task)

*malay version*

Yang watak yang anda suka atau mengagumi kebanyakan? Beri alasan-alasan bagi jawapan anda dengan merujuk berhampiran dengan teks.
I - Kenal pasti keperluan soalan - watak yang anda suka

atau mengagumi -
M - Berdasarkan Novel yang laknat oleh Lee Su Ann, watak yang saya

suka atau mengagumi ... ... ... ... ... ... .... kerana ... (keadaan 2 sebab-sebab)
E - Apa yang berlaku yang menjadikan watak disukai / terpuji? Bilakah ia berlaku?

Di manakah ia berlaku? (Berikan 2 bukti-bukti bagi setiap sebab)
J - Berikan alasan mengapa anda mengatakan bahawa watak disukai / terpuji?(Penutupan - mengaitkannya dengan

kita hidup sendiri)

... ... ....(Menyelesaikan tugas)

He Had Such Quiet Eyes

by Bibsy Soenharjo

He had such quiet eyes
She did not realise
They were two pools of lies
Layered with thinnest ice
To her, those wuiet eyes
Were breathing desolate sighs
Imploring her to be nice
And to render him paradise
If only she’d been wise
And had listened to the advice
Never to compromise
With pleasure-seeking guys
She’d be free from ‘the hows and whys’
Now here’s a bit of advice
Be sure that nice really nice
Then you’ll never be losing at dice
Though you lose your heart once or twice

Event write on important event

In the novel ‘The Curse’ by Lee Su Ann, an important event is the outbreak of the fire which results in the Old Lady’s death.

Firstly, it is an important event because after this event, it creates a domino effect on a number of other events which in turn helps Azreen to finally solve the mystery behind her sister’s murder. The fire enrages Azreen and ‘like a wildcat’, she confronts Mohd Asraf. He apologises and admits that he had been too grief-stricken to be rational when he has lost two important people in his life – his secret lover, Madhuri and his grandmother, Nek. After the fire which kills the Old Lady who is trapped in the fire, Awang, the bomoh informs Azreen that Madhuri is not her biological sister. The secret about Madhuri’s identity is finally disclosed by Azreen’s father who reveals that Madhuri is actually an abandoned baby whom Saleh pick up from the paddy field. Moreover, the village Pontianak is actually Madhuri’s biological mother who returns to the village to seek revenge over her daughter’s death. According to Awang, the ‘ghostly figure’ is also the “vengeful spirit” that has killed Azreen’s chicken.

Secondly, it is an important event because we are finally shown the reason for Madhuri’s murder and the culprit. When Azreen confronts her father, Encik Saleh defiantly confesses that he had accidentally murdered Madhuri after learning that Madhuri, a married woman, commits an adultery when she secretly sees another man. It is probably out of shame, the angry father who is embarrassed of Madhuri’s unethical behaviour which he thinks has brought shame to the family, confronts Madhuri and during the struggle, Madhuri falls to the ground and her head knocks over the latex cup which stains her clothes. A distraught Azreen flees after hearing the shocking news while Encik Saleh comes face-to-face with the shadowy woman – Madhuri’s mother who nears him with a parang in her hand. Saleh collapses and dies of a heart attack. With this, peace is restored in the village when the spirit of Madhuri’s mother disappears after bidding farewell to Azreen who leaves Langkawi to return to London.
Thirdly, the fire at the Old Lady’s house is the climax of the novel. From that point onwards, events dramatically unfold and Azreen gets to the bottom of the mystery. Azreen puts the pieces of facts here and there together and begins to understand the reasons behind the cover-up of Madhuri’s murder by her husband, Haji Ghani. Most importantly, we are also exposed to the crime of the villagers who are willing to do anything including planning an attack on the innocent and harmless Old Lady just because of superstition. Under the instigation of Puan Normala, the villagers are convinced to believe that the Old Lady possesses a special power to turn people into rats and squirrels, so the latter is accused to be an evil witch who brings all the misfortunes and bad omen to the village. In fact, when the rain continues to pour for more than four days, causing the town to be flooded, the Old Lady is blamed to have put the curse on the village. From this event, we can see how gullible the villagers are to believe the vicious rumours spread by the village gossiper, Puan Normala. She does not seem to care about the destruction she causes. Her irrational behaviour thus destroys the reputations of victims such as the Old Lady even in the eyes of children. At the same time, through this event too that we see the purity of the Old Lady’s heart. Despite being ostracised by the villagers, the Old Lady bears no grudges and is still willing to help people like Asraf’s Nek. More importantly, the Old Lady at the point of her death before the burning house collapses on her, she reminds Azreen to forgive all the villagers who have wronged her.

Asraf and flashbacks of her schooling years fills the scene.

Chapter 6

The Old Lady relates to Azreen that she saw Madhuri’s lifeless body and the wound on her.  She suggests that Madhuri’s murder was covered up as investigation into her death would reveal more secrets.  Puan Fatihah, the village headman’s wife recalls how her life changed forever when her husband, Haji Ghani, became attracted to Madhuri.

Azreen recaps how Madhuri tried to defend her from her father’s wrath for stealing mangosteen and the good times she spent with Madhuri. In a flashback, Azreen admitted her folly for letting the bull go in order to save Asraf from Encik Mohan and his son’s wrath.  The escaped bull knocked into the motorcycle that her parents were on and caused her mother to be paralysed.The Old Lady reveals her past life with her abusive husband who drove her to kill him in self-defence.  She made herself a home in a deserted house in the jungle.

Asraf is concerned about his grandmother’s deteriorating health.  At the same time, Hj. Ghani, mourns at Madhuri’s tombstone.  While deep in thoughts, he almost saw someone, a woman in a flowing white dress, strolling past the trees. At home, Azreen’s father reprimanded her for not latching up the chicken coop. A chicken carcass, with its neck broken, lies on the bottom step of the coop.

The next morning, Azreen reads Julian’s letter about the examination week in college.  Then, she reads Madhuri’s letter of her marriage and relationship with Kak Fatihah (Haji Ghani’s first wife).  The letter also hints that Madhuri has a secret to be revealed to Azreen when she returns home for her holidays.

Chapter 8

Azreen’s mother dies.  Meanwhile, Mohd. Asraf continues to worry over his sickly grandmother.Mohd Asraf goes to the market to look for medicinal plants for his grandmother but fails to find any.  In desperation, he goes to the Old Lady’s house for help. The Old Lady hesitates at first but after much persuasion from Azreen and Mohd. Asraf, she finally agrees to go over to Mohd Asraf’s house to help his grandmother.

Chapter 9

Siti keeps an eye on  Mohd. Asraf’s grandmother (Nek) while he goes out to get her medicine.Pn. Kamsiah and Normala  are curious at the Old Lady’s presence at  Mohd. Asraf’s house. The Old Lady tries to cure Nek.

Azreen is puzzled to discover a university prospectus that reveals Mohd. Asraf’s intention to pursue his studies in Kuala Lumpur.  When Azreen returns home, she sees the bomoh scampering behind the bushes.  As she confronts the bomoh, he informs her about the mob incident at Mohd. Asraf’s house.

She immediately runs to Asraf’s house.  Normala blames Azreen for bringing the Old Lady to Mohd. Asraf’s house and causing heavy downpour to hit the village.  An argument starts and Azreen’s father intervenes to stop the commotion.  Meanwhile, Nek is beginning to recover and Mohd. Asraf is extremely relieved.  They thank the Old Lady for bravely coming over to cure Nek and the rain finally stops.

Chapter 10

Azreen awakes to a flurry of knocks on her doorShe finds out that Nek has passed away and Mohd Asraf is heading towards Nek’s house with a few men for revenge.   Azreen tries to stop him and in a struggle, stabs him at the foot with a spade.  The torch that he was holding fell onto the wall of the house and soon the house was on fire.  Azreen finds Nek, barely alive lying beside the stove and she advises Azreen to learn to forgive before it is too late.  Azreen’s father saves her before the whole house crumbles.

Mohd  Asraf  confesses to Azreen that he loves Madhuri and they were planning to abscond from the island when he was offered a teaching course in Kuala Lumpur. Madhuri wanted to confess to her husband, parents and Azreeb about her affair with Mohd. Asraf.

However, Madhuri was found dead at a rubber plantation.  Azreen then meets Awang, the bomoh, who tells her that Madhuri was not her real sister.  Awang also confesses that he was the one who left the gate open that led to the motorcycle accident that paralysed her mother. Awang also confirms that he had seen Madhuri and Mohd Asraf together several times in the rubber estate.  The chapter ends with Haji Ghani, the headman thinking about his young wife meeting her lover on that fateful day when she was killed.
Chapter 11

Azreen  delves on the bomoh’s words that Madhuri was not her real sister. She encounters a shadow of a woman from behind the wooden fence again that directs her to a woodpile a few feet away behind her house. Azreen and her father walk towards the woodpile and see a “parang” that Saleh used to chop wood. There is white and sticky stain at the edge of the parang.  Azreen immediately recalls Normala’s words “She had white blood” and she stares at her father in disbelief.

Saleh recalls how fond was he with Madhuri and how he found her as a baby at the paddy field. He stumbles upon Madhuri and Mohd Asraf together at the rubber plantation. In his fury, he kills Madhuri and her body knocks over the latex-filled container. Upon hearing this revelation, Azreen runs away from her father.
Saleh suffers a heart attack and dies.  Meanwhile in the village, a rumour spreads like a wildfire that a woman who looks suspiciously like his dead daughter had been wandering about at the time of his death.

Chapter 12

Azreen visits her family’s graves. She leaves a flower on each grave and leaves quietly.  She leaves a flower at the hillside where the Old Lady was buried, too.  As Azreen leaves, she sees a smiling figure which resembles Madhuri’s smiles.
